About Me

Welcome to my blog. I am a proud Christian, Wife, Momma, and Daughter. Our life is crazy at times, but we are blessed every day. Roll Tide!!!

Thankful Thursday

Thanks to a recommendation from a friend, I'm reading the book "One Thousand Gifts". I would recommend this book to all of you! I have laughed, cried, and had my eyes opened to how much I am truly blessed - and how ungrateful to God I am for it all on most days.

So as a way to ease back into blogging I'm going to start Thankful Thursday. Just a few common to extraordinary things I've noticed this week that I am thankful that I slowed down long enough to enjoy, appreciate, and give thanks for.

We've had so much rain lately, it is so easy to complain - especially when the rain messes up our work schedule or routine. It can also be beautiful if we take the time to enjoy it! This week I'm thankful for:

Raindrop circles in mud puddles

After all the rain and storms, it has been SO nice to have a few pretty days!

Warm, sunny days in the middle of winter

I don't have a picture for this one, but I am thankful this week for good friends, and that my kids have thankfully chosen good friends also!

What are you thankful for this week?

$15 Challenge

Sara recently entered the Etowah County 4H $15 Challenge. She had to shop for a complete outfit at a yard sale, second hand, or thrift store. She could only spend up to fifteen dollars on the outfit, and she had to model the outfit for the competition, and give a brief presentation. Mamaw took her to Goodwill and she made out like a bandit! She got a dress, shoes, purse, and necklace that looked great together, all for under $15.

She did so good during the modeling and interview questions, and ended up getting second place in her age group. We are so proud of her!

Jekyll Island

After we left Savannah, we headed for Jekyll Island. We had never been, and didn't really know anyone who had, so we really didn't know what to expect. It was very laid back and not crowded at all. The water wasn't clear like on the Gulf beaches, but you could still find seashells and sand-dollars, and crabs. We went horseback riding, playe putt-putt, walked the beaches, and ate alot of good seafood! Dewayne would add that he spent ALOT of time fighting off the biting gnats. I felt sorry for him - those little critters really enjoyed tormenting him!

Driftwood Beach

I love these old trees with the spanish moss!

We also went to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. They rescue injured sea turtles, treat them, and either return them to the ocean, or try to find homes for them in zoos. This turle had a huge crack on her shell from a boat propeller.

Savannah, GA

Being self-employed it is REALLY hard for us to get away for a real vacation. By a real vacation I mean one that doesn't start on Friday after work, and end before Monday morning. We just decided to make it a priority to get away for a whole week this spring break. We spent the first part of the week in Savannah, GA. There are so many beautiful and historical places there. Of course we didn't get to see everything, so we will definitely be going back! And because we are food people, we ate ALOT of good food. Most notable ones in Savannah were Paula Deens, Uncle Bubbas Oyster House, and Cheddars! Yummy! Oh yea, almost forgot Five Guys Burgers and Fries!

We had to have a little photo shoot before we started sight-seeing!

Our friend Scott lives in Savannah, and he and his son Liam got to spend some time with us while we were there.

WWII Memorial at the Riverwalk

This was inside Kevin Barry's pub on the riverwalk. The entire second floor is a tribute to the military, police, and firemen past and present. This is a piece of an I-beam from Tower One of the World Trade Center.

This is the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. The pictures do not do it justice. It is breath-taking, and hard to believe that it was built in the early 1800's.

I'm only including a couple here, but surrounding the inside of the sanctuary were these sculptures depicting the life of Jesus. Thank you Jesus for Your saving grace!

Can you tell that Liam had to do everything he saw Austin doing? I only wish I could have gotten a pic of this precious little guy dancing to Drink a Little Drink, Smoke a Little Smoke! Check out Liam's Hooters shirt! I hear he has those Hooters girls wrapped around his little finger! LOL

We also visited Ft. Pulaski, a Civil War era brick fort. The union army used new rifled cannons during a two day battle against Confederate forces at Ft. Pulaski.

It was pretty much over for the Rebs after the Union cannons hit the powder magazine. The Confederate forces surrendered two hours later.

Even hundreds of miles from home, Austin can find some folks to play painball with!

I just loved these fish downspouts! Very unusual!

This is just one of the MANY beautiful restored homes in Savannah.

Our Family is Growing!

On February 12th Dewayne and I gained a son-in-law, and 2 new grandchildren! (I know I'm playing catch-up! They've been married for 2 months tomorrow, and I'm just now getting around to blogging about it!) Crystal and Jason were married at the Guntersville State Park Lodge. It was a gorgeous day and a beautiful and sweet ceremony! Welcome to our crazy family Jason, Seth, and Jaylee!

The beautiful bride!

Handsome Carter all dressed up! Sweet Jaylee
Here comes the bride!
They had a very sweet sand ceremony for blending families.
Crystal, Jason, and their pastor (sorry don't remember his name - LOL)
Sweet and beautiful Amy who I hear has just acquired a fully developed back-bone, and is about to start kicking butt and taking names! I have lots of agression that needs to be burned off girl so you just call me if you need back-up!
The new family! I love this pic!
The happy couple! Jason LOVED Crystal's Alabama dress! We WILL convert him!

2011 Father Daughter Dance

This past Saturday night was Sara's last Father Daughter Dance. This is kinda sad for me. I know she can't stay little forever, but it seems like this last year she has just grown up so fast! Since this was the last one she wanted to go all out and get a more formal dress than ones she has worn in the past. I think she made a very good choice! A big thanks to Sissy for doing her hair!

This is one of my faves!

All the girls had a blast dancing, talking, and laughing the night away. I think some of them even took time to dance with their Daddy's!

Austin's Apple Fritters

Austin has been saving for a few months to buy himself an IPAD. It came in today and one of the first apps he installed was from Allrecipes.com. He found this recipe for Apple Fritters and they are YUMMY! I'm so glad at least one of my kids like to cook!
